UT Anderson Cancer Center postdoctoral fellow joins UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following addition to its faculty and leadership staff.

Tanya O’Nita Robinson, Ph.D.

Dr. Tanya O’Nita Robinson, recently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine (digestive diseases).

After receiving her B.S. in biology in 2004 from Jackson State University, Robinson served as a lab technician in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at UMMC from 2004-05 and in the Department of Environmental Sciences at JSU from 2007-08 before receiving her M.S. in biology from JSU in 2010. She then earned her Ph.D. in microbiology (immunology theme) in 2016 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and had her postdoctoral fellowship at MD Anderson from 2017-19.

An active member of the JSU National Alumni Association, the UAB National Alumni Society, the American Association of Immunologists and the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer, Robinson is the author or coauthor of five articles in peer-reviewed publications and seven abstracts, posters or oral presentations given at scientific meetings internationally. Her research interests include studying innate immune mechanisms of gut inflammation.
